UK Staff Senate opens 2025 election nominations for staff representation

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 15, 2025) — The University of Kentucky Staff Senate is now accepting self-nominations from UK staff members interested in serving as elected representatives in the university’s shared governance structure.

“Serving on Staff Senate is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact at the University of Kentucky,” said Staff Senate Chair Courtney Chafin. “As a senator, you will represent staff voices, advocate for positive change, and help shape policies that affect our workplace. Through active participation in shared governance, you will ensure staff perspectives are included in key institutional decisions — promoting transparency, accountability and collaboration across all levels of leadership. Serving also offers a chance to grow professionally, expand your campus network and contribute to a more inclusive, supportive and empowered UK community.”

Staff Senate members play a vital role in advocating for staff needs and influencing policies and programs that impact the university’s work environment. Whether someone is enthusiastic about workplace improvement or simply wants to have a voice at the table, the Staff Senate offers a platform for action and engagement.

2025 Staff Senate election timeline

  • Self-nomination period: May 12-26
  • Voting period: June 6-18
  • Election results announced: June 20
  • Three-year term begins: July 1
